T-Rex 64 on Android - HOW TO
To my big surprise, I have discovered, that T-Rex is actually playable on Android via Frodo C64 emulator. Sound is okay and gameplay is smooth even on my aging phone.
IMPORTANT: Frodo is recommended for older phones (it requires menu key to load disk image). If you use Android 10 or any other version that does not have “menu” button, use Emu 64 XL application instead. It has bigger hardware requirements but supports newest Android and T-Rex seems to be working there as well.
As Frodo is a bit awkward, here’s what you need to do:
- Install Frodo C64 from Play Store.
- Download T-Rex (just take ZIP version) and unzip it right onto disk space of your phone.
- Start Frodo and press menu button (usually left one, you have to keep it pressed for a while).
- Choose Load Disk option.
- Look for unziped rex.d64 file and pick it. Either option will work, just pick “Start the disk (first entry found).
- The game will be loaded, run and after a while unpacked.
- Press the same menu button and choose “more”, then pick “Joystick mode”.
You can now start playing. Start the game with fire button (circle on the right side). Use the same fire for jumping, use Joy Down (left side) for ducking - this is all you need to play it.
Have fun! Cheers, Maciek
